Is it possible to learn how to drive a car well enough to pass the test?.. well.. that is the same answer as to your question.. they are BOTH reliant on MUSCLE MEMORY and a knowledge of the BASICS.. they only people who will tell you that you don’t need lessons because you can learn how to play a guitar off of youtube.. CAN’T PLAY THE GUITAR.

What are some good youtube videos that teach you how to play guitar from the beginning? My brother got a guitar for christmas, got frustrated, and hasn’t picked it up since.
So, I want to learn.
I already know treble clef and base clef, because I play piano.

Youtube don’t have any advanced ones, but I’m sure that any major library also loans out videos teaching how to play the guitar. I got a few DVDs there..
Else, there’s plenty elsewhere on the internet, through torrents especially.

Hope you’ll find some.. Oh, and PS.. In my opinion, it’s a lot more fun just to play without having someone to tell you what to play.. But that’s only my opinion.. I’m not learning as much as I could have, but it’s way more fun :]

It depends on your learning style. Some people work better alone, and some with a teacher. For playing the guitar though the value of having someone look at your fingering and listening to your strumming and picking and being able to say to you ‘that’s right’ or ‘that’s wrong’ is really worth shelling out on.

Depends how much time you’re going to invest and how engaged/interested you are in playing the instrument. From what you’ve told me, I’m going to say you might be a fast learner considering you’ve already learnt another instrument.

But remember that guitar is different from piano. From youtube, reading music doesn’t really matter as much. You need to learn tabs and finger coordination. So where does every finger go when playing D7? Stuff like that.

Then you need to master songs and pieces.

My friend started playing the guitar at a young age. Six years on, he’s damn good. He can play acoustic and electric (but I think he prefers electric?). With practice and determination, I’d say it’ll take you a few months to a year to get the basics down pat and actually start playing songs/pieces.

Just my guess though

I suppose it really depends on what kind of music you want to play but you can try Justin Sandercoe, give his name a search on YouTube and you should find a bunch of lessons.

The only issue is for a beginner YouTube lessons are all over the place with no real structure that will help you build a foundation for learning the guitar. YouTube is best at when you already have a strong foundation and are trying to figure out how to play a certain song.

But give Justin a go and see if he is what you are looking for. If not shoot me an email and I can give you a couple links for an online program that will build that foundation that I was speaking about.

does anyone know the best video lessons to use on youtube or anywhere else on the internet? I can play guitar sort of well and would just like to get my skills and knowledge up to par. can anyone help me because there are really allot of videos and teachers to pick from.
