I have been playing guitar a long time and I was just curious to see if these types of games are effective guitar teaching tools.

Edit: Woops, that’ll teach me to reed a bit better ROFl. but still, Like I said, you want to stay away from such games for the most part, as a Learn or Teaching Tool. They are great to have a bita fun, but 9/10 times, all they do is build bad playing habits, or are simply not very effective.

I’d op away from any game that claims to “teach” you How To Play Guitar, more so for Rock ones, as Rock in general is not a very good style to learn for someone with little or not experience. If anything, learn country or blue grass, they are a tad hard to start out with as well, but they’ll teach you everything you need to know. After that, it’s just finding what you like the best. There ARE several “games” that can help you learn the basics, but their result vary widely from person to person. Here’s a quick list of some of the more popular ones.

The best bet to learn ANY instrument though is to be taught by a real life living person; If you are still in school, see about joining the band (it’s a long shot, but some school’s allow Guitar), or if not, check your local community College (a possibility even if you are still in school).

They can give a basic idea of playing but to actually teach ? No way. So much more to playin the guitar than 5 buttons. Great finger warm up tho, for the real thing.

If you are a beginner the best would be to get a teacher who could get you started with few songs. There are various sites where you can find the chords like indianguitartabs, guitargaga, rhythemraga etc… You can find the videos at youtube but there is only one I know where the chords and video lessons are available together.

i would search “How To Play Guitar tab”

tab is an easy way to learn music. After you learn how to read tab (5-10) minutes because its not hard at all. learn a national anthem on guitar, because its generally one string, and helps you get used to playing tabs. then learn some acdc, or black sabbath, and you will be on your way.

I have heard of Mike Herberts, that is exactly the sort of thing i am looking for!

Hey there

I’m not to sure of many free Guitar Lessons online that are that great. In my opinion, if you’re serious about learning the guitar, then spending $ 40 or $ 50 on an online course is an investment.

These online courses that you pay for will be worth the money…trust me.

cruise around on you tube…you might find some video.
if youre just a beginner…it hurts the fingertips and you might quit too soon. try an Electric Guitar or a violin to become accustomed to the chords if youre really serious. good luck
