On a scale of difficulty, how hard is it to learn guitar?

Question by Bryant: On a scale of difficulty, how hard is it to learn guitar?
I want to learn how to play songs played by LM.C, but also the side of the soft love songs played to make people cry. I need a passion in life, so I decided to use my youth and take up guitar. Please tell me the reason as support for your answer. For the guitar players out there, how long did it take you to master it?

To FULLY master any instrument takes a lifetime, or not even.

To get past the basics and start playing easy songs takes a few months, but this varies as people learn at different speeds. Plus, it all comes down to how long and often someone practices, and what his or her goals are.

It took me a month or so to get the basic chords down. Been playing for over four years.

What is the best way to teach myself how to play guitar?

I have had a guitar for about two years but have no idea how to play it. I have tried taking out book from the library to help me but I still don’t know how to play it. How can I teach myself to play a guitar?

There are a lot of online tutorials for help at all levels.
First learn how to hold the guitar and position your hands.

Nest, spend a week doing a boring exercise where you use every finger on your left hand except the thumb to play a chromatic scale. Play for 5 minutes at a time a few times a day. This will condition your fingers. Start with your pointer finger on the 5th fret position of the 6th string. (This is the position between the 5th and 6th fret on the fattest string that makes the lowest sounding note.) With your right hand use a pic and play the note. Work on this 1 note until it sounds reasonable. Next use your left hand middle finger 1 fret up on the 6th fret. The the ring finger on the 7th. Then the pinky on the 8th. Now move the the next string, but start on the 4th fret and repeat the pattern. (When you get to the second string, you will not need to go down a fret to start the pattern like the other strings.)
One more thing about the above exercise. On the fisrt note, strike the pic downward. On the second note use an upward stroke. Keep alternating up-down with each note played.

After a week of doing this, learn 3 chords that you can use in a 12 bar blues song. (Or have a friend teach you an easy 3 chord song.) One of my first songs was Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival. That song uses a D, A, and G chord. You can look up how to play these on any internet search. (A bandmate has a chord app on his IPhone.)
Get the words to the song and try to sing along as you play. Even if you never become the lead singer in a band, the act of singing while you play will help you become better at both.

After you learn a couple 3 chord songs I recommend learning the A minor pentatonic scale. Sounds fancy, but it is really quite simple.

Once you get proficient at these 3 things, you’ll probably figure out better ways for your own learning.

How can I start to understand guitar without lessons?

I have lots of things after school, and I had to pause my Guitar Lessons until summer. I’ve only taken, like, five. The most I know is the pentatonic scale, blues scale, dominant chords, major/minor chords, and bar chords. How can I get better when I don’t have someone to teach me?

Well, at least you are getting somewhere. YOu can always go to this site and learn at your own leisure.

Learning How to Play Guitar Scales

Perhaps no one would contest that almost every man has had the desire to learn how to play the guitar in his early years.

Perhaps this is due to the fact that in our time, guitars are pretty much available anywhere and that guitars are a lot cheaper and portable than pianos and other musical instruments.

Guitars are also a lot easier to learn than other musical instruments. Add to this the fact that many rock icons and country music stars use guitars. Although it is sad that many who started did not pursue it, it is still compensating to know and realize that we will never run out of good guitar players in the world.

Learning the guitar scales is not for beginners. This is for people who know how to play the guitar, even in the basic ways only, and want to further improve their musical prowess. If you are not yet aware of the different guitar parts, then perhaps you should start at the basics before learning the scales used for guitar music.

It was always observed that there are 12 sections on the guitar’s musical octave. These divisions are called semitones. To give a further definition, an octave is called so if one note or sound is twice as high as another one. When looking at the guitar, keep in mind that that each fret or division is a semitone.

This means that there is a total of 12 frets in regular guitars. You will find that sometimes there are more than these in other guitars. Another thing to remember is that one scale starts and also stops at each octave. You may have observed that others use a “capo” when playing the guitar.

This means that what they press as a chord is pressed farther from the nut after they have tied something around the guitar. This is for experts who understand the differences of the octave and the scales. They also do this to play a different key.

Accordingly, there are seven modes for the major scale. For the minor scale, there are only three modes. There are other guitar scales called the blue, pentatonic, and the whole tone scale. India and Spain introduced the diminished and other scales.

Pentatonic Scales
Many will say that this type or mode of scale is the least complicated of all. This is precisely because the pentatonic scale is only using five notes instead of the standard seven notes. One should never miss in learning the pentatonic scale because this is crucial in learning the other modes of scales.

There are two types of the pentatonic guitar scales: the major and the minor. Accordingly, the major scale is a lot more complicated than the minor scale. The difference is that the minor scale is shifted three frets from the major scale pattern. The major scale is commonly used in songs or music meant for the church.

The Blues Scale
The blues scale is like a modification of the A Minor Pentatonic Scale. This is done by adding a note to the pentatonic scale. This is done simply to alter a common note or scale, thus adding flavor to the music.

Learning Acoustic Guitar

Many of beginner guitar players choose acoustic guitar as their first instrument. That is, is many ways, a wise choice. You don’t have to buy additional accessories to make the guitar sound louder , and acoustic guitar also weights less than electric guitar.

Playing acoustic guitar is different than playing electric guitar. Let’s take a look at these differences.

The first and main difference is the body. Acoustic guitars has a hollow bodies, and they’re projecting sound only with acoustic methods. That’s different from electric guitar, who has pickups and need amplifier in order to make it sound loud. The neck and scale also is different. Usually acoustic guitar’s scale is shorter than Electric Guitar’s scale , making it harder to reach higher notes. The neck is usually fatter than electric guitar’s neck.

The difference is also in strings. The are strings that are made and should be used only on acoustic guitar in order to maintain the guitar’s sound quality. Unfortunately not all people realize it, so they make mistakes such as putting electric guitar’s strings on acoustic guitar. That’s not right and can ruin your sound and even guitar. One of the biggest mistakes is to put an electric guitar’s strings on a classical guitar (Acoustic Guitar with nylon strings) , which requires specific strings. Doing it you can even brake your instrument.

To sum this all up I can say that acoustic guitars has much wider variety than electric guitars, so there’s a greater chance that you will purchase the right instrument.
