most websites aren’t that brilliant unless you want just the music. Otherwise, you could just buy a beginners guitar learner book (which I did), or buy lessons, which can sometimes get quite dear

I always suggest students start with a classical, or nylon stringed, guitar for a couple of reasons. First your finger tips will develop callouses with much less pain, and you will be able to practice more. And, The fingerboard is usually wider, allowing students more room for those untrained hands.

I’m getting a Acoustic Guitar for Christmas.
I already know what kind and everything it is a Fender CD-60CE
is this a good one?( for a beginner?)
its about $ 300
I’m really dedicated to learning.
but how long do you think it’ll take to actually be good

Well acually , its much easyier to learn on a electric , because you dont have to push your fingers down as hard .
thats the worst part , just trying to keep your fingers down tight . other than that the acoustic is just fine to learn on , its pretty good and it has an awesome light folk sound .
and the guitar you picked is siqq yo !

Question by B-up: I want to learn electric guitar, but should I start with acoustic?
My brother (who plays guitar) said something to me that I should start learning with an Acoustic Guitar, then when I’ve got that learned, move onto Electric Guitar.. But why? Like, what is the purpose of that? And should I do that?

If you want to learn electric than learn on an electric. An acoustic is more likely to create much needed calluses on your fingers. There is also more tension so if you ever did make the transition from acoustic to electric it would be easier for you to play. It also doesn’t require an amplifier which is a whole differant playing field and cost. Your brother was trying to lead you in the right direction. However, ultimately it is your decision and it could very well be dependent on the style of music you may want to play.

With an acoustic, all you need is the instrument. Electric you need a lot more stuff to actually be able to play it.

Hey buddy,

good on you for wanting to learn the guitar.

I guess there are countless ways to teach yourself, but about 8 years ago I was in the same position and taught myself. Last year I got signed to a record label…

First of all, I got a book on guitar chords. It had a LOT of chords. I guess nowadays books aren’t as popular, so the internet is just as good.

The one thing you are going to have to accept is that it WONT happen over night. And its also going to hurt a little. Your fingers will sting and until you build calluses on your finger tips, you’re really going to ask yourself…is this worth it?!

It is I assure you.

The way I learned was to start building up a muscle memory with chords. Learn how to quickly put your fingers onto a certain chord. Then take your hand away then put it straight back on. Learn how to do it without looking. Then practice moving from one chord to another. Do it over and over and over until it is second nature and you get really quick at it. I recommend learning all of the major chords, the minor chords, the sharps, the flats, and maybe some 7ths.

It will take some time to remember them all, but it is SO worth it!

With these chords, you’ll start to find that you can play a lot of popular songs.

Learn how to read guitar tabs. There are probably countless sites on the internet. And even on ultimate guitar there are probably a few.

A lot of people say guitar tabs are cheating…and you should learn to read music. Maybe you should….but you said you want to learn yourself….and reading music is hard to learn, and you probably want to get to playing music for girls etc QUICKLY!

It has SO many guitar tabs and chords for songs on ultimate guitar. Just search songs, or bands and go from there. Try easy songs first…dont get ahead of yourself… it can make you feel worthless…but if there is something you cant get the hang of…keep practicing! It really pays off in the long run.
