I’m going off to college and I’m selling my Electric Guitar for an acoustic.

I really want a smallish acoustic with a thin body, but I still want it to sound good. I also don’t want it to be too expensive since I’m not anticipating getting a ton of money from my electric. Any suggestions?

I always preferred Yamaha instruments, whether it be guitar, piano, or clarinet.

Although Yamaha guitars might be a little on the bigger side, the sound quality is definitely something to be admired. I guess you could say that they also can stand more abuse than some other brands of guitars.

    Try a Takamine Jasmine.

And please don’t buy an instrument from Guitar Center or Sam Ash, they have no issues with selling you an instrument with a defect for the standard msrp or even higher, and you will get completely ripped off if you try to trade in your guitar for credit, don’t even mention trading for cash.

Find a small local music store in your area. The people there will be more than happy to help you out, and most small stores are very kind to their clientele and will offer you a fair trade-in deal.

Unless you are just buying some strings, stay away from the Wal-marts of the music world.

There’s all kinds of acoustic brands out there. Some better than others. Even within the same price range, some better than others. I’m partial to Gibsons, but that’s really a high end product. Why not go to <GuitarCenter.com>. They’ll be glad to send you their extensive catalog. You can order on line, free shipping. Good stuff. Good Luck @ college.

Get an Ovation. They’re great acoustics.

Have you considered building your own? There’s something pretty thrilling about building the instrument you’re going to play. I’ve built a number of them for myself and other people. Check out the Free Plans at http://www.cigarboxnation.com, including one or two on How to build a cigar box ukulele.
