I’ve have a first act guitar (my grandma bought it for me about three years ago) and I’ve been trying to teach myself how to play. My computer is extremely old and doesn’t play videos at all! So how can I teach myself how to play w/o a video?

Go to your local music store and purchase a beginner book and start at the beginning. It’s slow going and many people think they can just pick up a guitar and start shredding. But if you put in the work and play as often as you can, you should get pretty good in no time. As for the guitar, I’ve never been impressed with anything by First Act. If you can afford it, buy a Fender Squire Strat. It’s what I got as my first and it was a good beginner guitar. If you can’t afford it, stick with the First Act and start saving.

I agree with the first answer as far as heading to your local guitar/music shop to pick up a couple beginners booklets. Also, to save money (and if you have the time), check out the book selection at your local Goodwill or other thrift shop. Often times you can find a stack of good guitar material for pennies on the dollar.

I’ll be honest, in this day and age, videos are GREAT online teachers, because there are so many of them out there, but since you have a situation with that, try heading to your local library/book store/movie store and looking for a few guitar lesson DVDs. I’ve found them on the cheap, and they are the next best thing to internet videos. Good luck, my friend!

Well, if your computer can’t play online videos, where you can learn licks and chords, you have 3 chances then.

    1. Go to a local live teacher.
    2. Buy a DVD for beginners from the Internet. I think your computer allows you to make an order. If you’re confused, you try something has written on it stuff like: "beginner, chords, rhythm, absolute beginner, super beginner". Beware, don’t buy intermediate or advanced things, they’re gonna be hard to learn at first.
    3. Buy a book. You can guitar books in many places. Music stores, bookshops, Internet.

    I hope I helped!
